SARGENT FOR A CLEANER, GREENER ENVIRONMENT
The team has been busy these past few months volunteering for various environmental initiatives. Our green campaign began with the purchase of the Hino 714 Hybrid, a vehicle providing great usability combined with lower emissions and lower fuel consumption, and we continue to work closely with our customers to provide products that have less impact on the environment.
Recently we hosted a Clean Up Australia business event removing rubbish from the creek bank, parks and sporting fields local to Corporate Support in Brisbane. The team collected trays of rubbish and marveled at the strange bits and pieces they encountered throughout the day. Following on from this, a team of green thumbs returned to the banks of Breakfast Creek with the Herston-Wilston Bushcare Group to weed and mulch around the rainforest trees and plant understory species. The Herston-Wilston Bushcare Group is literally one man and his dog. Blair Bartholomew and his dog Ninja started work along the creek about 15 years ago, when it was a tangled wilderness of weeds (Ninja mainly providing moral support!).
Blair set about removing all the weeds by hand (mostly digging out with a mattock) before planting with local rainforest species, watering and mulching by hand. A lot of these trees have reached the stage where they are fruiting and are an important resource and corridor for local wildlife. This is a huge achievement.
Sadly, Blair was recently diagnosed with serious heart disease and now is unable to undertake any work along the creek so Sargent has volunteered to supply people power and vehicles under the direction of Blair and Brisbane Habitat Officer, Jenny Leask, to ensure all Blair’s hard work is not undone. Aside from doing our part for the environment, our partnership with the Herston-Wilston Bushcare Group provides invaluable team-building opportunities and a lot of fun and fitness along the way.
