Coal & Allied partners with Sargent in Hunter Valley
Sargent has been awarded a 3-year contract with Coal
and Allied, a major coal producer in the Hunter Valley region managed by Rio
Tinto, for the supply of light commercial vehicles to Mount Thorley Warkworth
and Hunter Valley Operations in the Hunter Valley.
Under the contract, Sargent will supply in excess of
50 light commercial vehicles to both operations for a 3-year period. The
vehicles will be fitted with a number of accessories to comply with site
specifications including:
- Fitted revolving lights
- High mounted driving lights
- High mounted work lights
- Battery isolator switch
- Reverse beeper
- Fire extinguisher
- Wheel safe indicator
- UHF Radio
- Flag
- Reflective tape
- Vehicle identification number
Grant Harrison, National Sales Manager, Sargent, said the announcement reinforced Sargent’s leadership in supplying commercial vehicles and equipment to Australia’s mining industry.
“Our selection as light commercial vehicle provider is the culmination of close to 6 months work with Rio Tinto’s procurement team and cements our leadership in commercial vehicle and equipment rental.”
Nolan Press, Sourcing Analyst, Procurement, Rio Tinto, agreed that Sargent’s experience and expertise in the provision of fleet solutions coupled with the quality of the company’s fleet was an important consideration in Rio Tinto’s decision.

Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is an integrated operation of two open cut mines located adjacent to each other 15 km south west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales. The operation supplies international and domestic markets with up to 10 million tonnes of semi-soft coking coal and thermal coal per annum.
Hunter Valley Operations (HVO), located 24 km north west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, supplies international markets with up to 11 million tonnes of thermal and semi-soft coking coal per annum.
